Malt na Mara Poitín

Poitín from Blackwater Distillery

Blackwater Distillery, situated in Ballyduff, Lismore, Co. Waterford is a micro-distillery that started production in November 2018, on the banks of the River Blackwater. The distillery building comprises a converted 1950’s hardware store and Blackwater were unique in Ireland in embracing blockchain technology where every bottle of whiskey produced featured a symbol that allowed customers to scan and access full information on the production journey.

Founded by author and TV producer Peter Mulryan, Blackwater’s three stills were made by Frills in Siena, Italy and produced poitín and gin prior to releasing its single malt whiskey.

Malt na Mara is an ocean malted Irish Poitín with a touch of Comeragh peat smoke. At the start of the malting process, dried seaweed is introduced into warm water, then the barley is added. The breakdown of the grain bill is 50% Mac na Mara malt, 30% Raw Barley, 10% Performer Rye, 5% Malted Peated Oats and 5% Husky Oats.

Malt na Mara is bottled at 50% ABV.
