Compass Box, Myths and Legends II

Single Malt Whisky from Scotland

The Compass Box is a Scotch whisky making company founded in 2000 by American entrepreneur John Glaser, formerly a marketing director for Johnnie Walker. The company exclusively blends, and with no distillery of its own, a significant portion of its whisky comes from Clynelish distillery in the Highlands of Scotland.

In this case, Myths & Legends II blends together malt whiskies of different ages, all from the Speyside distillery of Glen Elgin. However, the distinctive profile has nothing to do with “Speyside”; process decisions made at the distillery, the effects of maturation, and choices regarding the balance of the final blend determine the whisky’s quality and character.

The lead blenders were Jill Boyd and James Saxon and they selected 81.4% from recharred American oak barrels, with the remainder from refill American oak hogshead or barrels and refill sherry butts. It was bottled in July 2019 at 46% abv, not chill-filtered, with light 5 micron filtration and natural colour.
