Saturday the 12th of July was the hottest day of the year to date. Not ideal for a bus trip to Midleton for a feed of neat whiskey! But air-con on the bus and some tasty drops on the way had everyone in good spirits. The old Midleton distillery has some amazing buildings, which stayed pretty cool on a very hot day. The site is vast and the sunshine and blue skies as we moved through the Behind The Scenes Tour with Joe were gorgeous.
The Midelton visitor centre is quite classy. We began our tour by walking through the hidden door in the brightly lit wall of whiskey bottles. We watched a short video before moving on to the various buildings of grain store to mill house, from still house to maturation warehouse, all part of the Old Midleton distillery, which finished production back in 1975.
We got to spend some time in the micro-distillery. We had a delightful tasting there. The Method & Madness 7 year old single malt limited edition was delicious. We visited the Distiller's Cottage also where Joe treated us to a dram of MVR Barry Crockett Legacy. A magnificant setting worthy of a truely excellent whiskey.
We finished the tour with a drop of Redbreast 12yo Single Pot Still. There is a cafe in the visitors centre and had a lovely lunch before some shopping and jumping back on the bus for home. Some photos of the day below from various club members. Thanks lads! Really greatful to the Midleton team for a superb day out!
